Quick content disclaimer

Please note that this content is migrated directly from my previous Ongaku Shoujo fan website that I've shut down on May 11th, 2024.
Most content here is also taken from the Last.fm page for Ongaku Shoujo, which was also written by me.
If you have any corrections you want to suggest for anything written here, please get in touch with me or feel free to edit the Last.fm Wiki page!
I'll try to mirror any corrections here.

A lot of the things here are written purely based on my observations while looking through various resources in order to properly archive the 2013-2015 era of this project and most of it is not based with factual evidence, aside from things like album labels, release dates, songs, etc., so please take what's written here with a grain of salt and treat it more like a fanfic instead. Thanks!

What is Ongaku Shoujo?

Intro

Ongaku Shoujo (音楽少女) was an idol project by Taishi (泰志), most well-known for their various atmospheric electronic tracks, as well as from groups like Electro.muster & TRäkker, among many others, and with assistance from AKIRASTAR.

The project started out initially with 2 primary characters - 千歳ハル(CV. Numakura Manami)) and 熊谷絵里(CV. Seto Asami)). The gimmick between the two members was their contrasting music genres - Chitose Haru was mostly focused on J-Rock, mostly composed by AKIRASTAR, whereas Kumagai Eri was mostly focused on electronic & trance arrangements, mostly composed by Taishi, though there were times where they traded their genres for a unique spin.

2012-2013

音楽少女 debuted in C83, on 2012-12-29, with their self-titled C83 Special album consisting of the songs "Rock Me!" and "Moonlight Forest", both of which later appearing in later albums by the circle.

In March 2013, they released their set of solo albums for each member - "Rock the Hero" for Chitose Haru, and "Electronic Resonance" for Kumagai Eri, which bundled in the previously mentioned "Rock Me!" and "Moonlight Forest" songs.

Later on in 2013, 音楽少女 released 2 singles - "World Heroes&廻る日輪" in August 2013 and "Lucy & Starlit Walk" at the end of 2013.

2014

In 2014, 音楽少女 released  a couple of singles. One of those being "月面飛行のリリファ & ロックンロールキャット", as well as the "Perfect Free" album, which, on top of being the first duet album between Eri & Haru, also compiled the songs from the previous singles released in late 2013 and throughout 2014 into one album.

In December of 2014, 音楽少女 introduced the 3rd member of the group - 竜王更紗(CV. 渕上舞) (Sarasa Ryuoh (CV. Fuchigami Mai)), releasing her special single at the end of the year - "ネコガミ様に聞いてみて!&ドララドラ". Her gimmick, to add onto Haru's J-Rock & Eri's Trance, was to be the shoe-in "idol" who focused on J-Pop and mostly bouncy, catchy songs.

2015

2015 was one of the biggest years for 音楽少女 in terms of releases. While not the biggest in terms of numbers necessarily, in terms of popularity - 2015 was one of the most successful years the legacy version of 音楽少女 ever had.

In June 2015 they released the album "3STARS" which consisted of a song from each of the members, as well as the only release with 3 separate album covers featuring the members. Later on in August 2015, they released another single for Sarasa Ryuoh, consisting of 2 new songs - "Summer Little Rainbow & フライング・ソーサー".

Later on in the year there was a short anime OVA released for 音楽少女 featuring only the first 2 members - Eri & Haru, however its reception was mixed with an average score of 59% according to AniList, one of the main reasons being its short length at only 25 minutes.

After the anime OVA, 音楽少女 released their seemingly final album, as well as their most well-known one - "Justability", which consists of 4 songs. The titular song "Justability" features all 3 main members singing together, with later songs in the album being dedicated to each of the members. Justability has since gone on to rack up over 300,000 views on YouTube across various uploads, as well as become the most popular 音楽少女 song in the rhythm game "osu!" where it has garnered an impressive 900,000 plays across several beatmaps.

After the release of "Justability", the project seemingly died down, with 2016 and 2017 not bringing anything new for 音楽少女.

2018

In 2018, the label PINE RECORDS was established and took over publishing rights for 音楽少女.

During this year, 音楽少女 received a full 12 episode anime TV series, for which Taishi assisted with composing the music for. The anime expanded the cast of characters from a mere 3 members to a total of 12. The members from the anime series included the original members of Haru, Eri and Ryuoh, but also included the following additional members:
- 山田木はなこ (CV.  深川芹亜 )  (Hanako Yamadaki (CV. Seria Fukagawa))
Karin Takahashi))
Miho Okasaki))
Yuko Ono))
Miyuri Shimabukuro))
Nako Eguchi))
Lynn))
- 迎羽織 (CV. 小倉唯 )  (Uori Mukae (CV. Yui Ogura))
Sumire Uesaka))

For the 3 original members, their seiyuus (voice actresses) reprise their roles in this anime series as well. During the release of the anime series, there was a very brief Vtuber series, similar in style to Kaguya Luna and Kizuna Ai, where the cast of 音楽少女 debate on the current topics or discuss the recent episode of the anime.

During its run, there were also several singles released dedicated to each member of the revamped 音楽少女 cast, including the original members. A distinct difference in these singles is that, unlike the legacy version, the genres are not varied and instead focus on standard idol fare with each release, lacking the impact the original 音楽少女 had.

The anime series was not received well, with an average score of 52% and it being one of the least popular releases of 2018 according to AniList, the project afterwards received very little attention. Their last album was "ON STAGE LIFE", which consisted of the full version of the anime series' opening, as well as an original remix by Taishi. Afterwards, they released the anime soundtrack on CD as a limited release, and after 2018 - 音楽少女 was seemingly disbanded.

Legacy

It is currently unknown if there is anything in the works relating to 音楽少女, with Taishi moving on to other projects since and the project not receiving any kind of development since 2018. The Vtuber series has not been updated or active since the anime series finished airing, however there are a few diehard fans keeping the project going.

In 2022, I, the website creator, made it my mission to track down & archive all the 2013-2015 songs of 音楽少女, as, unlike the 2018 stuff, the older songs were not ever available for digital download anywhere. Despite 音楽少女 having its own dedicated Spotify page and dedicated pages for all of the characters, the 2013-2015 songs were never available on Spotify.

Aside from my own efforts, several 音楽少女 songs are available as dedicated beatmaps in the rhythm game "osu!", racking up an impressive amount of plays & attention.

音楽少女 may not be active anymore, but its legacy continues to live on in the heart of its fans.
