Hyperlinks fixed

5/13/2024

Some have reported to me that a few of the hyperlinks in the main Ongaku Shoujo page were broken, redirecting back to the website's home page instead.

I've fixed that now. Thanks to those who reported it!

Let me know if there's anything else that's screwed up.

Ongaku Shoujo is now live!

5/12/2024

As promised, I've now migrated all the content from the old Ongaku Shoujo fan website that I used to host (ongakushoujo.weebly.com) onto this website. You'll notice with the appearance of a brand new tab up top. As a reminder, only the 2013-2015 era has been transferred to this website, the 2018 stuff was intentionally left out.

You can check out the primary page here! And then move onto checking out each individual release from that time period if that interests you.

I still need to update the descriptions of the videos to match updated information. Though if you notice anything that's off about anything, please do let me know.

Oh, and one more thing - I've fixed the MEGA links on the following pages so they direct you to the download file itself instead of the general folder:
  • Deleted Maps
  • Unfinished Maps
  • Timed Songs
I double-checked everywhere else where I left a MEGA link and those looked to be fine so let's hope this is the end of that headache.

That should be all for now. Enjoy!

Upcoming Additions

5/11/2024

Hi all! I've posted something like this on the Hilbert YouTube channel that's mostly related to music archiving, but I'll also make a news post about it, since it's relevant to what's coming up for this website.

Over the weekend, I'm gonna be working on transferring over content related to Ongaku Shoujo from my now-defunct fan website to here. You'll see a new tab with a bunch of new pages added soon to this site!

I intend to finish it over the weekend so look forward to it. Currently, I've only finished migrating stuff from the 2012-2013 era & made all the relevant pages for them, but they're not public yet for now. There's a lot of transferring and a lot of headaches as well when it comes to this but I'm hoping I can sort it all out.

I've not gotten around to actually fixing the MEGA links on pages where they're broken still though, I'm sorry for that. I'll see if I can tackle that either today or tomorrow, I'll keep you posted.

That's all for now!

Navigation Update

5/3/2024

Doing a trial run of a navigation update for this website, since navigating it has been thus far the most confusing aspect about the website and the one thing that I've consistently cited as a major issue with the website. Starting now, I'm experimenting with attempting to improve the navigation of the website.

Here's what I've changed:
  • Hid the Hexis Support Page, now it's hyperlinked in the main Hexis page
  • Hid the pages for my deleted maps, unfinished maps, etc. and replaced everything with a central hub page with a directory leading to each specific page that you might need
  • Hid the pages for my osu! skins years and replaced everything with a central hub page with a directory leading to each specific page sorted by year
  • Added a short About page

Yes, I do realize that I've already mentioned a few of these changes already but, as you can tell, that was leading up to this update to the site that I've been thinking of doing anyway, so I thought it'd make sense to just group everything together into one.

I have also massively overhauled the Safari Biathlon Racer page, as well as the Open Hexagon page. The Safari Biathlon page mainly just got cleaned up, removing a lot of unnecessary information, formatting and also adding an alternative download link for the game. Please be sure to read the disclaimer about the alternative download link though.

The Open Hexagon page mainly had something done to it that I'm surprised I have never done in the "10 years" that this website's been around - added level pack descriptions and, way more importantly, properly crediting artists for their music that's used within the level packs!

Oh, and I've also linked the archive.org download for Hexis as well. Even if that upload is literally just a reupload of my own archive of Hexis, it's still helpful to have alternative sources.

Let me know if navigation of the website is better with this update, or if I should revert to how it was before.

Next up on the to-do list to fix on the site is probably cleaning up & fixing the MEGA links, as I just tested them and they're either broken or just link to the general MEGA folder where everything's kinda just there. I'll sort it out probably tomorrow or during the weekend, we'll see how things go.

Thanks, and have fun.

New Videos Added

5/2/2024

Heya. Just letting you know that I've added the missing videos for the skins that were missing them. In total, this resulted in 10 new uploads on my dead osu! channel, although the videos themselves are unlisted. They're strictly meant for use on this website as quick showcases of the skins, so I didn't see the need to make them public.

I've also revised the osu! skins category a little bit by turning it into a central directory page instead of just a dropdown menu, for those that click on it and wonder why it's not working.

Also, the non-functional buttons on huu's skin v3.8 and huu's skin v3.9 were fixed. Don't know how I ended up with that blunder but it is what it is.

Lastly, to make navigation for the website slightly easier, I've hidden the Hexis Support Page by default. The hyperlink to it is on the main Hexis page though, so it's still easily accessible if you were worried about that.

Huge Update To The Website!

4/30/2024

Well, it certainly didn't take me long to get to doing what I've wanted to do. A second news post in a day seems like too much to some, but the amount of things I've added onto this website just today alone really warrants a second post.

First and foremost - I've slightly modified the page for Hexis.
Mainly just re-arranged some stuff, added an additional video that tokaku made about the game, as well as made a brand new page related to troubleshooting the game if you're having issues!

The troubleshooting page is very barebones though, I've only written down things I've personally come across and how I managed (or didn't manage to) solve said issues, so if you've encountered more than what I wrote - please let me know by sending me an email! Thanks!

Second of all, I've finished the page for my osu! maps' old versions. It's no longer just a placeholder, so there's that.

Lastly, the big one - skins! There's an entirely new section in the osu! category on the website!
Starting today, you can find every single skin I've ever used in osu! on this website, all organized by year. I've even gone through the effort of going through my old, abandoned osu! YouTube channel to find relevant videos to put in, in order to showcase those skins!

Was a bit of a trip through memory lane though. Going back and seeing how much I've progressed within the game, as well as how over time my tastes for things has changed, has been very interesting.

I plan on doing more misc. work to the site over the coming few days but mostly just clean-up & back-end stuff that I don't think needs its separate news post. But yeah, what I've done today will hopefully serve as a useful utility not just for me, but for visitors of this website as well (that's you)!

That's all for now. Until next time!

Domain Name Change & Future Plans

4/30/2024

Starting today, this website's domain is being changed from shfoh.weebly.com to huuishuu.weebly.com

All of this is part of the process to rebrand this website from being about Open Hexagon to be my own personal space to post & do personal things.

After 10 years, it is finally time to ditch the old name. In case you're wondering what's happening with the old domain, I'm turning it into a hacky redirect to this site now. Weebly's tools are very poor to allow you to add your own redirect, I couldn't figure it out, so visiting the old site will just give you a big "MOVED" text thingy, since that's the best I could do.

Another huge change I've made is that I've restructured the website's navigation a little bit. The Hexis and Safari Biathlon Racer pages have been moved into their own category that I've made, called "Abandonware", since these games are effectively that.

I'm also in the process of adding in my own personal unfinished osu! map stuff to the website. Hovering over the "osu!" category, you will see a new addition specifically relating to my own mapping stuff. Currently, the following pages are accessible / finished:
- Deleted Maps - a page dedicated to hosting my own deleted sets from osu!
- Unfinished Maps - a page dedicated to hosting maps that I've started but never finished. This includes collabs!
- Timed Songs - a page dedicated to maps that I've only timed but never got started on mapping.

The 4th page, Old Versions, is currently under construction. I ran out of time today to work on it, so I'll add it at a later point.

Later on, I will also work on adding a page dedicated to housing all of my osu! skins that I've ever made. I have quite the extensive backlog going back to 2015 and could never find a consistent way of housing them, but I think I could use my own personal site for that. So that's on my to-do list for now.

One more thing - I've done some spring cleaning on the website. There were A LOT of legacy pages on this site from 2014-2017 that were only ever sparsely used. You probably didn't know about them because they've been hidden for so long! Well, starting today, most of them have finally been deleted & the contents of those pages - erased. Don't worry, nothing of value was lost! Mainly things like an old FAQ page that became redundant, an old "About" page, etc.

I've only kept a few "hidden" pages - such as the old "News" page linked on the sidebar, or the page for my old Open Hexagon packs' previous versions. Oh, and the Need for Speed World page is technically still there but I've hidden it. The download on that page also doesn't work, as it's been DMCA'd by EA back in 2016.

That's all for today. I'll be back probably later in the week with new additions.

p.s. Yes, this website is still blocked in CIS regions. I can't do anything about that, I'm sorry.

Considering changing the domain & regarding access issues

4/12/2024

Hi. It's huu again.

It's been a little while since I relaunched SHfOH. One of the biggest pet peeves I've had with the relaunch though, is not the fact that I can't design a website worth crap, even with a website builder tool like what I'm using right now, but it's primarily the domain.

Right now, the domain for the website is "shfoh.weebly.com". This poses a few problems and questions for people, such as "what the hell does shfoh mean", and most people are very turned off by the idea of seeing "Weebly" as a subdomain.

Likely because a lot of, let's say, bad actors tend to use website builders, much like Weebly, to do shady things online. Scam sites, phishing, etc. - you get the idea. For this reason, a challenge I've faced with my site is that a lot of websites block anything related to the Weebly subdomain. An example would be Steam - if I try to link my site anywhere on Steam, it'll immediately flag it as a dangerous website and even risk banning my account. Already had that happen once, actually, kinda (one of my community posts were taken down by Valve for having this site linked).

I say that, yet I tested just now by sending this website's URL to one of my alt. accounts & even linked it on my profile, neither were filtered out. Perhaps Valve lifted their spam filter on Weebly? I know it used to be a thing in the past but it doesn't seem like it is an issue right now. Can't say for certain for how long though, and I'd ideally love to just avoid it entirely.

Secondly, what does "SHfOH" mean? Well, I've explained it in an old news post but it basically means "Super Hexagon for Open Hexagon". It's an homage to what I made this website for originally. However, since my focus on this site has shifted wildly from that, I don't really think it's accurate to call it that anymore.

I'm considering changing the website's domain, ditch "SHfOH" for good, and perhaps just make it my own personal thing. I was thinking of grabbing a domain but then checked Weebly's pricing - $145/year doesn't...seem worth it to me? I don't know, really. If anyone can clarify things like this for me, get in touch with me. You'll find my contacts here.

Also, one more thing I wanna mention - I've received reports that CIS countries seemingly cannot access Weebly whatsoever, including this website. This includes countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, etc. I've tested this myself with Windscribe and I've been able to reproduce this as well. Unfortunately though, that is out of my control. I've tried looking around in the website's console to see if I can remove these restrictions but there doesn't seem to be an option for this. Looks like a blockage on Weebly's end as a whole and not something the end-user can resolve, which sucks.

That's about all I wanted to talk about for now. If anyone has ideas on how I can improve this website just...in general - layout-wise, design-wise, etc. - please do let me know. I'd really love to hear advice on design and everything. Even for me this website is a little bit of a nightmare to navigate but at the same time - I don't know how to really make it better...

An update to the osu! section

3/30/2024

Hi, it's huu again.

Over the last few weeks, I've done a ton of mapper outreach in osu!, offering them some deleted maps from my collection back to them for reupload. A couple have replied, took the maps & reuploaded them, which is great!

A lot of them, however, were unresponsive, or said they didn't want/need their own maps and don't plan to reupload them. I'm personally of the opinion that content of all types deserves to be preserved, within moderation of course. Which is why I find it to be a huge shame that osu! mappers delete their own work from osu!

On one hand, I get it. You're not happy with your own content. You think your map is "subpar" and that "you can do much better". I get that, trust me. But I don't agree with deleting the maps outright, preventing it from being played by people who might see value in said maps.

That's why I've gone through my osu! folder, wrote "status=n" to filter out unsubmitted maps, and whatever popped up that hasn't previously been uploaded on this site from back in 2016-2017, I've uploaded it myself.

With this change, I've also changed the disclaimer on the osu! page to account for two things:
- Mappers wanting to take downloads of the map down
- Copyright holders wanting to take downloads of the map/song down

Check out all the new additions in the Removed osu! beatmaps page! Let me know by contacting me on osu! if you have any questions, want to add something to the list, or if you're a mapper - to take one of your maps down, just keep in mind the conditions I've laid out in order for me to acknowledge your takedown request.

That's all for now. See you!

SHfOH is...back?

3/11/2024

Hi there. It's been quite a while, hasn't it? I'm sure a majority of people don't even remember that this website used to exist, but welcome or welcome back to those who do remember.

As of March 11th, 2024, I've decided to bring back the SHfOH website back online. The reason is simple - history. This website contains a lot of history for me personally, with me actively maintaining it from 2014 to 2017 with all sorts of junk.

With this resurrection of the site, however, I have removed the following pages:
- osu!
- Need for Speed: World

osu! content does not need to be mirrored, as we have great mirrors in 2024 such as BeatConnect, and many many others. I've also mirrored most of my own beatmaps either by reuploading some of them back onto my osu! profile, or by putting them all on MEGA, which you can find linked here.

As for Need for Speed: World - the content I had hosted on here was DMCA'd by EA a few years back, so the old downloads I used to have are not available anymore. Plus, Soapbox Race World is a thing that exists now, so the game is very readily accessible yet again.

I have, however, added back the page for Hexis, considering that Hexis has been offline for a number of years now. I have updated the YouTube video associated with it with my own video on Hexis, considering that this website went un-updated for a number of years, the related video seems to have been taken down by the uploader too.

One more thing about the Open Hexagon stuff. 2 of the level packs that have been hosted here have actually received ports to the Steam version of Open Hexagon, which you can find linked in the text on the left! The packs that have been ported are:
- Boson X for Open Hexagon
- Super Hexagon 2 - The Unofficial Sequel

You can click the hyperlinked text above to be taken directly to the workshop pages for both packs! Shoutout to VindowVipre for helping with the porting process! I might consider further updates to both packs in the future, as I've replayed them recently and kinda dislike how basic both of them are. Especially Boson X for Open Hexagon, which could really be improved by utilizing some of version 2 & above's features.

What this also means is that the packs hosted on SHfOH are for version 1.92 only, which you can find a download for here. I will also link the same GitHub page in the page for Open Hexagon. These are the same packs that have been hosted here previously with no major changes.

That is all. I don't really plan on maintaining this site very much, but I've at least decided that I'm bringing it back online for historical preservation, especially of my old Open Hexagon packs that nowadays are hard to find, even for me. I do not plan to update Rotating Madness & Super Hexagon for Open Hexagon (SHfOH) to the Steam release of Open Hexagon.

EDIT (2024-03-11 @ 23:18 UTC+2):
After skimming through the osu! beatmap page, I've decided to bring back the page for removed osu! maps, as I do think there's genuine merit to having that page. Some of the maps on there, despite having mirrors available on Beatconnect, are not available anywhere else, particularly some maps that were never even submitted to begin with.

I feel like having a mirror for them is useful for historical preservation, so I have brought the page back and brought the osu! category back with it. I might look through my collection in the near future and actually comb through my osu! folder to find any other deleted/removed maps that are either very difficult or impossible to obtain anymore, and maybe update the website. Watch this space, I guess!
