Weekly Update #5

3/11/2017

Hey all. Hope you had a nice week and have some plans for the weekend unlike me.
Regardless, let's get into our weekly SHfOH updates!

#1:
The Safari Biathlon Racer download has been updated to remove an "infected" file.
I myself, as well as some of you visitors have noticed that the download of Safari Biathlon Racer triggered a virus detection on various anti-viruses like Avast & Avira.
Fortunately, I have identified the cause of the detections, being a really poorly written config file that doesn't specify what directory it's allowed to modify the files in, thus triggering the detections.
The file wasn't essential for the game to run, so it has been removed.
If you continue getting virus detections on your antivirus, please let me know and I'll figure something out! Thank you.

#2:
New osu! beatmap added - Cyber-Rainforce - Fortress (Nath's Theme from 100% Orange Juice)
While this beatmap isn't quite the quality I wanted it to be when I started mapping it, I at least finished the map, so...you know. Hope you can find some enjoyment in that repetitive thing.

#3:
Updated Mousou Katharsis with a new difficulty from mcwc2307.
Nothing big this time, just a new difficulty addition and that's about it.

That's it for this week's updates.
I know, it's pretty small, but honestly, I didn't have much on my plate this week, hence the somewhat small amount of updates.

I'm not just gonna leave it here though, as I do have future plans for SHfOH.

One of my future plans is to start putting up game reviews on the site!
This isn't a final decision yet, as I'm unsure how often I'd be writing reviews, but this is part of my plans somewhat.

The next is guides! Specifically speedrunning guides.
Yes, I know websites like speedrun.com have guides written down for games, I want to write some guides personally. And by that, I mean guides written from scratch, without using any other guide as a base for anything. However, just like the reviews thing - this isn't final and I'm not sure how far I'm willing to take this.

Besides that, hope you all have a wonderful rest of the week and see you next Saturday!

Weekly Update #4

3/4/2017

Hey guys. Back again with the SHfOH weekly updates!

Let's get right down to business.

#1:
Added a new game to Others - Safari Biathlon Racer!
A sci-fi racing game made in 2000 by Nikita Interactive. Make sure you prepare some kind of Virtual Machine with Windows 98 preferably to run it though, as the game is notorious for having compatibility issues with any Windows version above XP Service Pack 2. 98 has the least issues though, so it's recommended you use that.

#2:
Information in My osu! beatmaps has been expanded!
Added map length & BPM as well, making each map more informative.

#3:
Added new unfinished beatmap to My osu! beatmaps - Taishi - Fallin' Snow.
This was supposed to be a winter-themed collaborative mapset with my friend NyarkoO, but as winter was a busy time for both of us, we didn't manage to finish it before winter ended, thus - it got cancelled.
It was intended to be a 4-ish star map with a storyboard, but oh well.
We'll start a new collab mapset somewhat soon, one that isn't themed to a specific season, but as for Fallin' Snow - sadly, it won't see the light of day that is completion. But oh well.

That's about all for this week.
See you guys next week!

Weekly Update #3

2/26/2017

Hey guys.
Back again with the weekly SHfOH updates!

Let's get down to business.

#1:
Added new map - Mousou Katharsis!
I mapped something fairly slow and easy this time, in light of me finishing Megadimension Neptunia VII. Hope you like something easier for once, can't map only Insanes and Extras, you know?

#2:
Added difficulty information in My osu! beatmaps!
Now you can see a specific AR or OD, whatever before you even download a map! Hopefully it's more informative now, let me know through the Feedback form if I should add something or remove something useless.
And don't worry - I'll eventually add it to Other osu! beatmaps as well, problem is that there's a lot of maps there, so it'll take some time before I can get to all of them. Have patience, 'kay?

#3:
Weebly blog comments have been disabled (or at least I hope so).
You won't be able to comment on Weebly blog posts anymore, however - I've done this for your own security, as Weebly openly shows to you your IP address whenever you post a comment. Since I'm not sure if we'll ever get breached or not, I've done this for your security. Let me know through the Feedback form if I should change this back or use a different commenting system, but not many people used it, so it's whatever I guess.

That's about it for this week.
Sorry for being late! I had a very busy week, so I kinda missed the deadline this time.
I'll try to not miss next week though.

See you!

Weekly Update #2!

2/18/2017

Hey guys.
I just finished rolling out the second weekly SHfOH update. What has changed?

#1: Can't Let Go by shivaco has been removed from SHfOH by his request.
shivaco has contacted me last week and asked for one of his beatmaps, DJVI - Can't Let Go to be pulled off of SHfOH. While he did not state the reason why, I still respect his decision and pulled the map from SHfOH.

#2: New beatmap added to Other osu! beatmaps -
SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]Gemie - X.U., which was mapped by shivaco.
This could be a potential replacement of Can't Let Go from him, but regardless - his new map has been added. Hope you enjoy.

#3: disperagioia and furioso melodia updated!

furioso received some minor slider fixes and I will likely no longer update it past this point, as I don't think I can "fix" the map per-se without redoing the entire thing.
And disperagioia had custom hitsounds added 4 days ago, so I updated it to the latest version. Feel free to try it out!

#4: Minor header changes.

Due to some confusion from visitors, I've made the Submit osu! beatmaps page invisible and instead made the submission text in Other osu! beatmaps larger, so visitors wouldn't get as confused when it comes to submitting beatmaps. I've also renamed Other to Others.

And that's it for this week!
Next week I'm planning on rolling out a change in My osu! beatmaps which'll add more detailed information on each difficulty of every map, so look out for that.
Eventually I plan to add that to Other osu! beatmaps as well!

See you guys next week, have a good one.

Weekly Update #1!

2/11/2017

Here comes the first wave of the Weekly SHfOH updates!

Alright, so today's the first day the SHfOH weekly update schedule takes effect. What has changed?

First of all - I have removed the Community Open Hexagon Packs tab.
As it hasn't been used even once throughout it being on the website for almost 2 years, I felt that it's unnecessary at this point. So, the community Open Hexagon packs tab has been completely scrapped, as well as the one pack that was hosted there has been also removed from the website. Alongside the Community tab's removal, the FAQ has also received an update, which removes the, now unnecessary, Open Hexagon Level Pack Submission FAQ.

Second - updated the beatmaps in My osu! beatmaps!
furioso melodia and Ferris Sand Canyon have been updated to their latest versions on the official osu! website, as well as disperagioia, my latest map, being officially added to SHfOH!
Sorry to those banned players who wanted to play the latest versions of these maps for taking so long, but better late than never I suppose.

Third - this one is a more insignificant change, but F.A.Q. has been renamed to just FAQ.
Yeah, pretty insignificant, but I felt this was somewhat necessary.

That's it for this week's updates!
See you guys next week!

Website management

2/9/2017

Alright, I'll be perfectly honest. I seriously suck at managing my own website.
Ever since starting this website in 2014, I've always operated it under the "update what I want, when I want" model. It's pretty self-explanatory as you can probably imagine, but I believe something needs to change about this.

I think importing an update schedule to update the website at least once a week would greatly improve my productivity here, as well as potentially increase the quality of the website as a whole.

Which is why, starting this Saturday (February 11th), SHfOH will receive weekly updates.

They range from the following:
- Updates and additions to My osu! beatmaps (if I have any, of course).
- Potentially add new osu!  beatmaps to Other osu! beatmaps.
- Update website structure in general.
- News post every Saturday.

Although keep in mind that my choices aren't limited to just what I had listed there. I can add completely new things altogether from time to time.

If I don't manage to update anything, then I at least promise that the news post every Saturday thing will be consistent, unless I say otherwise.

I will also try to do the following:
- Potentially contact a GFX artist for some banners on the website
- Update any outdated information
- Maybe get a second moderator of the website, if I find someone trustworthy

Lastly, I will no longer stylize myself as "Site Owner" after every blog post, as I'm the only person running the blog anyway, so it's pretty redundant I think.

Need for Speed: World, 1 new beatmap added! furioso melodia updated. Open Hexagon Developer Trivia removed.

1/21/2017

Hey guys. I'd like to let you all know that Need for Speed: World is now available for download here, as well as relevant links on how to get the game running with an offline server! You can find it all under the "Other" tab.
Those who have visited the website in the last 2 weeks will know it's been there already, but without the download links. Well, now the download links are there too, for those who have already seen it.

Next we got a small change - I added a new beatmap - "Sota Fujimori - polygon" by sionKotori, as submitted by my friend Shyotamaze. Thanks for the submission!

Moving on, you also probably noticed that there is now only 1 furioso melodia in "My osu! beatmaps". That's because I've made changes on it about a week ago where I deleted "Melody of the Furious God" from official osu! and the website and instead integrated it with the existing mapset. Both to not use up slots on the official osu! website, as well as potentially giving it more exposure, as it hasn't received any here or on official osu! as a separate mapset. So now, the old furioso melodia has been updated to include "Rage" difficulty, which I renamed "Melody of the Furious God" to.

The last change - a rather insignificant one - "Open Hexagon Developer Trivia" has been removed, as I felt the page was 100% unnecessary at this point.

That's about all, see you next time!

Regarding Weebly & general website feedback

1/4/2017

Over the last few days, there have been people who have been criticizing me for using Weebly to make this website.
While I don't blame people for having distrust in Weebly as a service, I feel like I need to step in with this.

First of all - I whole-heartedly believe Weebly is a great service.
While yes, they can and should police illegitimate, fake & outright scam websites a lot better, the freedom they still provide for their Free users is still, in my opinion, very open.
Even if you don't pay a cent to Weebly, they still give you a lot of options work with, and the options they don't give you - well, they're mostly minor things that I think only a small percentage of people would actually use.

Second - I run a legitimate website here.
Whether you trust this website or not, regarding it being hosted on Weebly, I still run a legitimate website. I provide the content I make and people themselves submit for free, and for the content that isn't mine that's hosted here - remember - I have no problem taking it down, should the owner of said content not want it hosted on my website.
I have never charged anyone for any of the downloads on this site, nor do I plan to do so.
Moreover - I had only a single incident reported where a download was infected with malware. And even then, that was resolved fairly quickly, as it was a slight mistake on the file hosting service I use (being MediaFire). While I couldn't restore the download in question, as MediaFire doesn't reverse their file takedowns and me losing the original files to begin with, I still left a mirror to the official website where you can download said files from, so me hosting it on my website was pretty pointless to begin with.

Third - I do not take donations for anything this website does.
If you've noticed, there's not a single page that has a "Donate" button. Again, this website is hosted on Weebly, which is a free service, meaning I do not have to pay any bills for it. However, this does come at a slight cost - the website must have .weebly.com at the end of it. This isn't really a bother for me honestly, but this does mean my website gets filtered out on other websites & services, like Steam, because, well, there are a lot of illegitimate and scam websites hosted on Weebly, which I think Weebly should police more.

You might have a question though...
"Why not just buy a custom domain?"
While I would love to, certainly, I think "shfoh.com" would look infinitely better than "shfoh.weebly.com", there's always that eternal issue of money. As you probably guessed - I don't have money.
And no, I don't want to take donations for this website.
See, I'm still a minor with no job. And that means I cannot afford pretty much anything on the internet, unless it's spoonfed to me. It's why I usually turn to free services, because you don't need to pay and they are hassle-free most of the time. Maybe when I get out of school and get an actual job I'll buy a custom domain for this site, because I do care about SHfOH. But for the foreseeable future - the website will remain with the .weebly.com thing attached at the end, as well as Weebly branding at the bottom.

"Why don't you want to take money for this website?"

Because it doesn't feel right to do so.
While yes, I do host my own content here, keep in mind - I also host content that other people make.
And some of the hosted content in question is also copyrighted, such as the music inside Open Hexagon level packs and osu! beatmaps.
While yes, some could argue that this is piracy, at least regarding osu! - the content originates from osu! and all I do is just mirror it. But like I said - should owners of said content want it taken down - I will take it down as soon as I can.
Do you get my point? While I did make Open Hexagon level packs and osu! beatmaps, certain elements in them are not mine, primarily the music. It doesn't feel right to take any kind of monetary compensation for them, be it donations or if I charged you, say, $4.95 for every download. It'd be wrong. And I wouldn't let myself do that, let alone the owners of the original content.

Quote me on this and remember it for as long as this website is up:
I will never take any kind of money for the work I put into this website. No matter what. This website will strictly remain free.

That said though, I do realize that some people have legitimate criticism towards the website, maybe towards its design, management or whatever.
Which is why I have added the "Feedback" page.
On that page you will find a form which you can fill out, giving your overall opinion about the website and potentially suggest improvements and whatnot.

It's something that should've been here since day one of the website, but I never added because I didn't think anyone would use it.
Granted, that fear is still there, but as this website grows - it's better to prepare for the future now than later.

That said though, I still thank those who provoked this kind of discussion.
Whether you have a positive opinion about this website or not - I'm at least happy you have some kind of opinion.

(Late) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

12/31/2016

Ho ho ho..! Guess it's a bit late for that now, huh...?
Well, at least I'm not late for New Year's Eve! Well, sort of. As of writing this, it's still 19:40 where I'm in, so technically I'm not late with the New Years Eve greetings.

Regardless though, I wanna wish you all a (late) Merry Christmas and a very very happy new year.
2016 was a big year for this website. Lots of change happened, the most important one being that I started giving care to it again like I used to in 2014, possibly even more.
Lots of great additions - like mirroring old beatmaps that have been removed, revamping the site structure, overall - this website is unrecognizable to the way it was in 2015 and early 2016.

I want to thank each and everyone of you who has stopped by my website and hopefully found the content here useful, I hope for even bigger and better things from 2017!

So, what better way to celebrate the upcoming year than with a big update?
If you head on over to My osu! beatmaps, My osu! skins and Other osu! beatmaps, you will notice A LOT of new additions. Such as long over-due updates to my beatmaps, ME RECOVERING AND UPLOADING V1.9 OF MY SKIN, which I believed to have been lost forever! And A LOT of new and lost additions to the Other osu! beatmaps page especially, including THE ORIGINAL Jump Training maps (and not the updated versions by rezoons!) (yes, "Make A Move" now has its original bg, for which it got removed from osu! for!) and a bunch of others, such as Pluto by Amai Chocolate, monstrata's old MIIRO and eLy's old Tower of Heaven.

This is both my thanks and my apology for the inactivity, but I waited for this on purpose. Wanted to end 2016 with a bang, so to speak, haha.

Thanks again for 2016!
See you all in 2017, you beautiful suns of guns. ❤

1,000 website views! (+ an apology)

12/14/2016

Recently we've surpassed 1,000 pageviews since introducing the pageview counter about 4 months ago! Yes, progress has been slow, but I couldn't be more proud that something I've created has finally reached over 1,000 views! Thanks everyone!

I would also like to apologize for being super delayed with updating both my stuff and stuff you people have been submitting. As mentioned in the previous blog post, I've simply been busy to update anything on the site. Thankfully, a break from school and the like is coming up, so things should kick in for a bit then!

I sincerely thank you for your patience with me and I hope you have a great day.
